Surfer has more speed, as he can fly across galaxies in seconds and match speed with Thor, who can travel across the solar system in 60 seconds. He also has better reaction time than Thanos since he can react to Thor.
In addition to his striking strength, Thanos has lifting strength that can match Drax and Hulk (who can hold six billion tons).
Both are extremely powerful, but Thanos has sent Galactus flying with a blast, even knocking his helmet off. He has knocked down Hulk with lasers and he has hurt Odin.
Silver Surfer is smart, but Thanos has studied magic for 3000-5000 years, meaning he has more knowledge than Norrin Rad.
Thanos has much more durability since he has tanked hits from Galactus and Odin, he also survived a black hole and an explosion the size of a large city.
The Mad Titan knows magic, so he has an advantage over Surfer in skill and power.
