10 Marvel superheroes who are currently dead in the comic books

10 Marvel superheroes who died and stayed dead

10. The Sentry: The Sentry, aka Bob Reynolds, is a troubled yet incredibly mighty superhero, one of the strongest in the entire Marvel universe. He's so powerful that he cannot die, but he was torn in half by Knull during the King in Black's invasion of Earth. Bob's soul has finally moved onto the afterlife with the help of the Valkyrie.

9. Toxin (Pat Mulligan): Police officer Pat Mulligan was the first human to ever wear the Toxin symbiote, an offspring of Carnage. Blackheart beat Pat Mulligan to death, where the Toxin symbiote later bonded to Eddie Brock instead, but is now attached to Bren Waters.

8. The Swordsman: Jacques Duquesne was once a carnie who once taught Hawkeye how to shoot. He later became a criminal and one-time enemy of the Avengers. After falling in love with Mantis, who became a Celestial Madonna, Kang the Conqueror tried to kidnap her, killing The Swordsman in the process.

7. Yellowjacket (Rita DeMara): Hank Pym's Yellowjacket suit was stolen and used by Rita DeMara who joined the Masters of Evil, but later betrayed them to join the Guardians of the Galaxy. When she travelled back in time she was killed by Iron Man, under the control of Kang. She was later resurrected during the Chaos War but was just a brief return and later went back to her grave to rest in peace.

6. Ghost Rider (Alejandra Jones): Alejandra Jones was the next mortal to inherit the spirit of vengeance after Danny Ketch, but her tenure was short, sadly. Carnage killed Alejandra, but she was able to briefly return as a ghost to assist Danny Ketch to survive Carnage's attack, eventually getting even, but still remained dead.

5. White Tiger (Hector Ayala): Hector was a small-time martial artist who was empowered by the White Tiger Amulet. After wrongly being accused of shooting a cop dead, Daredevil tried to defend Hector in court, but he had a nervous breakdown and tried to escape, only to be shot dead by police.

4. Goliath (Bill Foster): This is possibly one of the most significant deaths in all of Marvel, also one of the most groundbreaking characters as the first African-American superhero. Killed by a cybernetic clone of Thor during Civil War, his death sent a shockwave through the superhero community and decided the alliances that shaped the rest of the Civil War.

3. Valkyrie (Brunnihide): Brunnihide the Valkyrie and her allies were massacred by Maliketh during his invasion of Earth, told in the comic book 'War of the Realms'. She offers guidance to Jane Foster from Valhalla from time to time, her life on Asgard is over.

2. Captain Mar-Vell: The Kree superhero is a fierce enemy of Thanos and ally of the Avengers. After siding with Earth against his own people, he contracted cancer during a fight with Nitro the Exploding Man and was offered a cure by the Kree under the condition he betrayed humanity, which he refused and later died. During the Chaos War, he was resurrected by the Kree and used as a weapon against the Phoenix Force and the Avengers, but he was an empty, mindless, undead puppet, who later returned to great beyond when freed.

1. Jean Grey: X-Men Jean Grey perished when she was struck with an electromagnetic pulse. She was resurrected for a short while but is presently deceased. Wolverine also died in the comic books when his healing power disappeared, making him vulnerable, the hero eventually dying encased in a shell of adamantium. However, unlike Jean Grey, Wolverine is back!

Uncle Ben has to get a mention, he is not a superhero, but his death is one of the most iconic within Marvel. His death is so important to Peter Parker's backstory, similarly how the Wayne's deaths are so integral to Batman's. Should we also mention the death of his girlfriend Gwen Stacey here too... poor Spidey has really been through it!

Other Notable Deaths: Dove (Donald Hall) / Rorschach (Walter Kovacs) / Thunderstrike (Eric Masterson) / Hitman (Thomas Monaghan) / Vulcan (Gabriel Summers) / Silver Fox / Ant-Man (Eric O'Grady) / The Scarlet Spider (Ben Reilly).
