10 Things you didn't know about Yoda

Important facts you need to know about Star Wars Jedi Master Yoda

The new Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi series has reignited many viewers interests in Star Wars, with fans flocking to watch other storylines between films, such as 'Clone Wars' and 'Rebels'.

With the iconic franchise more popular than ever, CBB decided to list 10 facts about one of the most  recognised and cherished characters, Grand Master Yoda:

10. His death, at the age of 900, occurred on the swamp planet of Dagobah, but his home world where he was born is unknown, as is his species. He was born in 896BBY and died in 4BBY.

9.  He joined the Jedi Order as a youngling and Professor Huyang helped him to construct his first light-saber when they were on board the Jedi ship, the Crucible.

8.  As a Padawan, he was trained by N'Kata Del Gormo, and later by Garro. He became a Jedi Master himself at around the age of 100. It is estimated that he trained and tutored over 20,000 Jedi over the next 800 years. When he first became the Grand Master, he shared the title with two others - Lahru and Pra-Tre Veter, and later Ry Ki Sakka attained the position too.

7. One of his students, Kantam Sy, became a favourite sparring partner of his when they trained in the Jedi Temple on Endovar., admitting he was the most disciplined Padawan he had ever taught.

6.  Yoda has been friends with Maz Kanata for hundreds of years.

5. Although Yoda used a cane to walk, he would not require the use of it when using the force. He could quickly throw it aside and leap into battle when manipulating the force.

4. Known for his wisdom, Yoda was against training Anakin Skywalker from the very start, sensing much fear and anger in the youngling, but he was overruled and Anakin ultimately fell to the dark side of the force. Yoda was also revered for his ability to wield a light-saber in battle. He loved to duel and was so highly-skilled, very few Jedi could fight him in combat on equal terms.

3. Becoming a Force Ghost after death wasn't a natural Jedi skill, it was more linked to the Sith. It was Qui-Gon Jinn who rediscovered the ability and sent Yoda to the Force Priestesses to learn more. He practised this during his exile on Dagobah, where he also reached out to other Jedi scattered across the galaxy to watch over and assist them.

2. Yoda tried very hard to guide Anakin, whose future was clouded, to ensure he stayed on the right path, even saving his life once in an encounter with Darth Sidious. He even assigned Ahsoka Tano as Anakin's Padawan to help him learn emotional maturity.

1. Another unnatural Jedi power that Yoda learned was to the use of Force Lightning, another skill mostly associated with the Sith. Yoda was capable of employing several arcs of energy in different directions from a single finger. He could also manipulate fire and could absorb blaster fire with his bare hands!

Bonus Fact: It is rumoured Yoda has a sister called Yaddle, and there is also another Jedi of the same species named Minch, as well as Oteg and Vandar Tokare.

Extra Bonus Fact: Yoda was originally meant to be called Buffy by George Lucas, but this was changed to Minch Yoda by screenwriter Leigh Brackett, but Minch was wisely dropped and Yoda was end choice, which is actually Sanskrit for 'Warrior'.

Even Extra Bonus Fact: Yoda's appearance, mostly his upper lip, was tweaked to resemble famous genius Albert Einstein to enhance his wise look.

Apprentices: Count Dooku / Kantam Sy / Talisola / Aloxian / Kit Fisto / Mace Windu / Ki-Adi Mundi / Luke Skywalker.
