Thor: Love and Thunder newest trailer breakdown

Full breakdown of the newest trailer to Thor 4

The newest, extended trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder was released on May 24 and has instantly caused a stir amongst Marvel film fans. The 2-minute-long trailer has plenty more reveals than the first trailer released last month; for instance, we see the film's antagonist for the first time, the evil Gorr the God Butcher.

Here is a full breakdown of newest teaser of the film due out this July, Friday 8th:

The trailer begins with a Wild West style landscape complete with a sunset and canyons in the background, with Yggdrasil the world tree, in the very centre. In the first trailer, this is where Thor meditates and then plants Stormbreaker into the ground, seemingly giving up war for peace, according to his words.

Then, Thor's faithful friend, Korg, begins to narrate a story of 'Thor Odinson' to a group of children listening in.

Thor is then seen summoning lightning from his newest weapon, Stormbreaker.

We see the same scene from the first trailer where Thor is working out, trying to lose his beer belly by grabbing two giant metal chains tied to the skeleton of a monster, who could be Mangog, the being with the rage of a billion souls who was chained to Mjolnir and cast into the sun by Jane Foster in the Mighty Thor comics. It could also be Ymir, the father of the frost giants and god of the cold.

Then, it shows Thor in the midst of a battle on Earth. His eyes light up in delight upon seeing his beloved Mjolnir, but as he tries to summon the enchanted hammer it teasingly hangs in the air hovering just inches from his fingertips until it travels backwards in the opposite direction to it's new owner, Jane Foster, aka The Mighty Thor.

Played by Natalie Portman, Jane Foster is no longer a geeky astronomer but a full-on, uniformed superhero. Mjolnir still shows all the cracks and scars from when Hela destroyed it in Ragnarok.

Valkyrie is seen flying through the air on her flying horse, followed by Jane using lightning and flight with her new hammer, showing off the fact that she can wield the power of Thor.

She turns to Thor to ask how long it's been, suggesting it's been around three or four years, to which he sentimentally replies, "Eight years, seven months, and six days... give or take." Now this is interesting because there's a five year gap between Jane's estimations and Thor's, which suggest that Jane 'blipped' when Thanos snapped his fingers in the Infinity Gauntlet. Jane is highly intelligent, so it's unlikely she would get that date wrong by so many years.

Then it flicks to the location Olympus where Valkyrie asks Thor if she is sensing feelings between him and Jane again, to which Thor unconvincingly laughs it off.

Then, finally we get a glimpse of the film's antagonist, Gorr the God Butcher, played by Christian Bale.

Gorr looks villainous and frightening. He has a history of killing gods because he blames them for his tragic upbringing where he lost his family, including his wife and children.

It turns then to a frosty scene, featuring a giant beast the size of a mountain called Faligar, who was just one of many gods killed by Gorr. This panel is ripped right from the pages of the comic "Thor God of Thunder  - the Godbutcher". Thor is looking ahead at the slain beast accompanied by Korg, while these threats are uttered by Gorr "So this is my vow, all gods wil die!"

The next scene is more lighthearted, as we are treated to another glimpse of Toothgnasher and Toothgrinder; magical, flying goats that pull Thor's chariot.

A dramatic scene follows which sees Gorr and Valkyrie locked in a fierce battle on a grey, cold, lifeless planet.

There's lots of little snippets, one which shows Thor's chariot smashing through a huge stained glass window, then the God of Thunder is battling in a gladiatorial style arena, which is expected to be on Olympus.

There's also a glimpse of Drax and Nebula from the Guardians of the Galaxy fighting side by side, and a quick look at Thor and Gorr confronting each other.

It ends with Zeus surrounded by pretty women saying to Thor, "Let's see who you are. I take off your disguise." Thor is hidden under a purple cloak and his arms bound by two magical restraints that he can't break free from. Zeus flicks his hands and removes all of Thor's clothing leaving him completely naked. The girls surrounding Zeus immediately faint at the shocking site.

Jane Foster, hidden under a similar cloak of green, turns to Valkyrie sitting beside her, dressed in the same disguise in orange, and asks, "Should we help him?" Valkyrie replies, "I mean, eventually," then the friends continue eating grapes and watching on.

The film is directed by Taiki Waititi, the person who plays Korg and previously directed Thor Ragnorok, so it is bound to be lighthearted and funny.

The first trailer was dramatic and exciting enough, and this second one has only added to the excitement and anticipation for the fourth Thor film. Roll on Friday 8th July!
