The MCU are all set to introduce Adam Warlock in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy movie in May, which will be the 32nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In the comics, he is often referred to as the 'Space Jesus' for being created for divine purposes and being able to resurrect himself.

Here are 10 fun facts you may not have known before about Adam Warlock:

10. Adam Warlock was created by a group of researchers called the Enclave. The goal was to make the perfect human being, however they couldn't control him and he lashed out at his fathers and escaped.

9. As a newly created being, he had no concept of life and he upon encountering Thor, he attempted to abduct Lady Sif from him to mate with her, which led to the God of Thunder beating the young Godling near to death. Then only known simply as 'Him', he retreated to the safety of a regenerative cocoon and was later reborn.

8. It was upon his rebirth he was named Warlock by the High Evolutionary, who gave him purpose, direction and an Infinity Stone - the Soul Gem. His first mission was to journey to the planet called Counter-Earth to defeat the Man-Beast, who would become his greatest enemy. 

7. Warlock met four teenagers on Counter-Earth who helped him defeat the Man-Beast. One of them, a human called Ellie Roberts, gave Warlock the first name of Adam, because she thought he should have two names instead of just one.

6. His first kill was Triax the Terrible, an evolved humanoid warthog affiliated to Man-Beast. Counter-Earth was attacked by New-Man Triax and he grabbed two Adam's teenage friends, Ellie and Eddie, and threw Eddie off the top of a building they was fighting on. This angered Warlock so much that he killed Triax in battle.

The death of his friend forced Adam to retreat into his cocoon once more, which he spun in the Mojave Desert. There was soon an incident involving the American President setting off bombs and causing earthquakes, which forced Warlock and Victor Von Doom to team up to contain the destruction, but President Rex Carpenter declared on TV that Warlock was a menace and a threat. After that he was attacked by the U.S. army and had to enlist the help of the Hulk to defeat his enemies, who turned out to be the Man-Beast in disguise all along. He devolved the Man-Beast back to his original animal form, then promptly left Counter-Earth saying that he was needed among the stars.

5. It was soon after these events that Warlock came into contact with The Magus, a twisted, insane, future incarnation of himself. As the head of the Universal Church of Truth, The Magus had ground billions of lifeforms across the cosmos under his control. They fought but as a future being, he possessed greater might, so Warlock received help from Gamora, Pip the Troll and the mighty Thanos to eliminate The Magus from the Timeline, cancelling out his existence. 

In an unexpected counter-move, evil Thanos projected Warlock two years into the future where he encountered himself dying. He took the soul of his dying future self into the Soul Gem.

4. Once when he was travelling across the Milky Way, he encountered a rocket drifting through space away from nearby Earth. He used the Soul Gem to transport himself inside and found Spider-Man! The two of them teamed up together to defeat the Stranger, who attacked them to try and steal the Soul Gem.

3. It was Adam Warlock who alerted the Avengers of Thanos's plans to delete half the universe, which he had learned from Gamora after she was left for dead by her father. After a long and brutal battle, Warlock, who became a being of pure energy from inside the Soul Gem, was the one who managed to kill the Mad Titan turning his body to solid granite. After the victory, he retreated back into the Soulworld.

But it wasn't long before Thanos returned and Adam had to again form an alliance to thwart his evil plans. Thanos used the Infinity Gauntlet to ascend to the mightiest of cosmic beings, which is when Nebula seized the Gauntlet to defeat her 'grandfather'. Thanos and Warlock  had to team up to defeat Nebula, which resulted in Warlock ascending to Godhood. The Living Tribunal convinced Warlock to divide the Gems safely  amongst himself (Soul); Gamora (Time); Pip (Space); Drax (Power); Moondragon (Mind); Thanos (Reality). These six characters became the Infinity Watch. 

Their first threat they had to work together to thwart was the return of The Magus, who they all defeated back into the Soulworld. Other attacks later came from Mephisto, Count Abyss and Maxim.

2. Because of his status as a 'Champion of Life', he is beyond fate and destiny. This is stated by Lord Order and the Master of Chaos. His immense power and ability allows him to battle and overcome beings such as Thanos, who even Thor and Silver Surfer have a hard time fighting. His ability to form a cocoon to protect himself and restore his body practically makes him immortal.

1. He was a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. He teamed up with Gamora and Drax to help fight space crime for a while.

Bonus Fact: There was also an 'Eve' created in the same way as 'Adam'. Her name was Kismet.
