10 Things you didn't know about Ant-Man

10 Incredible facts about Ant-Man

Ahead of Ant-Man 3, due for release in February, here's 10 top facts about Ant-Man you might not have heard of before:

10. The original Ant-Man was scientist Hank Pym, who first began to experiment with size-changing particles after the death of his wife, Maria Trovoya, who tragically died while on their honeymoon. His next wife, Janet van Dyne, became the Wasp.

9. The Ant-Man was one of the first Marvel heroes to create a legacy. Similarly to Captain America passing his shield on to Falcon, Hank Pym recruited Scott Lang to become the next Ant-Man.

8. Just like other geniuses in the Marvel universe, Hank Pym arrogantly believes himself to be the smartest man in the world. He may actually be right though, as omnipotent entity Eternity regards him as the 'Scientist Supreme', over Reed Richards and Tony Stark.

7. Like most geniuses, Hank has a troubled mind. He often has to contend with bi-polar and schizophrenia, which leads him to become the evil Yellow Jacket persona.

6. In the MCU, Tony Stark creates Ultron and later has to battle him to save the world in the second Avengers movie. However, in the comics, it's Hank Pym who creates Ultron and are doomed to fight each other thereafter.

5. Not only can Ant-Man shrink down in size but he can also do a whole array of other amazing things. He can control insects and understand ants; he can dimension hop; communicate with cosmic entities; amplify his voice; possesses immense, concentrated strength; and once had the capability for pyrokinesis when he was exposed to Horton Cells after hitching a ride on the Human Torch, giving new meaning to the name fire ant!

4. Hank Pym was the original Ant-Man, followed by Scott Lang, but there was also actually a third - Eric O'Grady, who was a SHIELD agent. Eric stumbled upon the Ant-Man suit and used it for selfish purposes, but he did eventually die a hero, saving a child from the villainous 'Father' and perishing in the process.

3. Scott Lang has a daughter called Cassandra Lang, who has also used the Pym particles to become a hero like her father. So too has Hawkeye, Bill Foster, Erik Josten, Tom Foster and Rita DeMara.

2. Some of his enemies are very strange, such as Living Eraser, who uses a device to transport people from different dimensions. He also has rivals Scarlet Beetle - an actual mutated beetle; and Pilai - a blob-like alien; Elihas Star - a man with an egg-shaped head; Gogo - a man who can make things out of plastic; and the Beasts of Berlin - gorillas with an enhanced intelligence! That's quite an obscure rogue gallery to have!

1. Hank Pym co-founded the Avengers. He was a member of the Avengers himself, and was also in several other teams - West Coast Avengers; Mighty Avengers; Avengers Academy; Defenders; Secret Defenders; and even the extremely elite and secret Illuminati.

Bonus Fact: Hank has become close to many of his ants over the years, naming many of them. Some of the names include: Crosby; Stills; Nash; Prince; and Dusty, who was one of the first he befriended.
