Ranking the best Marvel and DC movies of 2022

Listing the best Marvel and DC movies of the year

There have been many superhero movies and series released during 2022, but which ones were the best? Here's my list below:

7. Starting with my least favourite film, Morbius. It wasn't a surprise that it was going to be bad, as Sony are not known for making great superhero films.

6. Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness was another bad film released in 2022.

There were several plot holes in the film and they wasted Gargantos (the octopus monster seen right at the start of the film); and everyone wanted Strange Superior from 'What If' and a meeting of Defender Strange and the rest of the variants. Also, Black Bolt and the Illuminati were wasted too - good characters not used effectively or successfully, in my opinion.

5. Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special was very funny and a good short film. It wasn't better than Thor, but it was a nice addition. Kevin Bacon was great in it and the whole story of Drax and Mantis travelling to Earth was funny. It was nice to see these two get a bit more screen time than they had in the Thor film, they were barely in it at all.

4. Thor: Love and Thunder wasn't the worst, but it wasn't a great film. Gorr should have killed more gods on screen, and the plot was a bit bad as well. Everyone expected a better Zeus, who is a big comic book character, very popular and strong. We all wanted to see Gorr attack Olympus for a big battle scene. Also, the CGI was terrible. There were far too many jokes as well, which is something Chris Hemsworth as clearly agreed with, stating recently he wants to see the character developed in a different way in the future, seemingly longing to move away from the jokes and silliness.

3. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was an amazing film. It had some really cool scenes, but they could have put more effort into the CGI for Ironheart's suit. The fight scenes were very good and so was the new character, Namor.

2. Despite all the talk of how much the film grossed at the Box Office, Black Adam was really good.  Yhe villain Saabac and good guys Doctor Fate, Hawkman and Black Adam's interactions and the humour wasn't overused, unlike in Thor 4.

Atom Smasher and Cyclone were funny, mainly because he's a bit dumb and she's very intellectual, but their relationship was portrayed very well. It was funny to see Hawkman always yelling at him, and interesting to show a superhero as a novice still trying to learn how to use his powers and getting it wrong.

There was a good balance between fighting scenes and plot. It was my second favourite superhero film of the year, worthy of being the best film of the year, in my opinion.

1. For me, the best hero movie of the year is The Batman

The villain was great, the plot was clever, it had superb CGI and amazing cinematography. There wasn't a lot of fight scenes, but how interesting and complex the story was makes up for any lack of action.

It was refreshing to see Batman taken back to his detective skills, which is literally what he was created as - DC stands for Detective Comics. Batman has many nicknames but one that doesn't get used anymore is the lesser-known 'World's Greatest Detective', which dates back to the first appearance of Batman Detective Comics #29, way back in 1939. So, Matt Reeves riskily took the Dark Knight back to it's roots and also cast Robert Pattinson, who wasn't everyone's preferred or obvious choice to begin with, but he plays the role perfectly. He is silent and brooding and suits the role very well.

In addition to this, there were many eyecatching scenes of Batman, like his walking up to the Penguin, who was played really well by Colin Farrell, and the realistic tone to the film was amazing. The Riddler was a geek, but he was made to appear invulnerable and a formidable genius, who took down the entire Gotham City.

The end to the film was also great, paving the way for a frozen Gotham with new characters pending... Freeze? Killer Croc? Can't wait to find out!

Did you know... Robert Pattinson had no clue about Batman's origins and skills as the world's greatest detective, so was initially confused by the script and the story's angles. Matt Reeves had to convince him that his '70s noir detective story' would work and when it did, Pattinson said he felt like an idiot for not knowing Batman was such a great detective.
