10 Things you didn't know about Wong

Who is Marvel's Wong?

Ahead of the newest Marvel offering, Doctor Strange 2: In the Multiverse of Madness, here is a list of 10 interesting facts about one of the film's main characters, Wong, who is much more than just a sorcerer's servant:

10. Wong is a direct descendent of Tibetan monk, Kan, who lived over 1,000 years ago.

9. 10 Generations of first-born males preceding Wong have all served the Ancient One. His father, Hamir the Hermit, remained with the Ancient One right up to their death. Wong was first introduced to the Ancient One when he was four.

8. He was the first ever member of his family to travel to America, when the Ancient One sent him to serve his disciple, Doctor Stephen Strange.

7. He began to develop strong feelings towards Strange's secretary, Sara Wolfe, but was forced to put an end to any relationship when he was notified that Imei Chang, the woman he was betrothed to before she was even born, had at last come of age to be married. She lived with Wong for a time in the Sanctum Sanctorum and she even developed a close relationship with Sara, until she was killed by the demon, Sister Nil.

6. Unmarried and childless, the grief caused Wong to become mentally unstable for a time and even became enemies with Strange, allying himself with other forces to battle against his master. However, the two soon made peace and from then on treated each other as equals instead of master and servant.

5. Strange once cured his friend Wong of cancer. Around the beginning of Civil War, where Iron Man fought against Captain America, Wong had developed an inoperable brain tumour. Strange immediately battled the demon-god Otkid to retrieve Otkid's Elixir, a magic potion which had the power to erase mind troubles and was a cure for brain cancer, which worked to save Wong's life.

4. He was once quoted saying: "When I dedicated my life inn service to you as Sorcerer Supreme... I remember I closed my eyes and prayed that one day I would grow up to be a second-rate Jarvis for a second-rate pile of Avengers!" This was in direct response to Strange's suggestion that he became a housekeeper and cook for the Avengers Mansion, which was a position he grudgingly accepted.

3. Wong and Strange had yet another falling out over the Doctor's methods of saving the life of their ally, Zelma Stanton, who became fatally ill after transferring the effects of a deadly poison from Strange to herself in order to save his life. Despite devoting his entire life to magic, Wong left Strange's side to finally build a life of his.

2. Wong, like all servants of the Sorcerer Supreme, is a blood donor, belonging to blood type O.

1. He was once eaten alive by a zombie Doctor Druid! This occurred during the Marvel Zombies vs Army of Darkness series.

And, he was even killed by Dracula once, but was found by Strange with puncture marks in his neck, almost completely drained of blood, so Strange entered Wong's mind to find clues that led to his killer, Dracula, who Strange hunted down and destroyed, and was able to resurrect his friend.

Bonus Fact: Wong is a very skilled martial artist.
