How was Superman's reputation ruined?
Currently, DC has made The Man Of Steel evil a lot. In Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League he was evil (from mind control). In Zack Snyder's Justice League he became evil by being manipulated by Darksied, in Injustice he was evil. Why is he evil in every project that DC releases? Superman is meant to be a beacon of hope to people, a hero and a symbol.
The S symbol on his chest means hope, he shouldn't be bad, in comics he's a villain occasionally in alternate universes, but there's always a good Kal-El to stop them, Ultraman, an evil version of Superman from another universe was a cool concept, but now it's boring. DC didn't reset Clark's character with him, they chose to keep Ultraman different to Earth 0 Superman since they're not the same, he was taught to conquer when he left Krypton, that is why he is different. Superman gets taught good from wrong by his adopted parents, Zack Snyder's Superman and Injustice Superman had that origin, but they lost Lois Lane so they turned evil. Superman constantly loses people in comics and he doesn't turn evil, a great example of this can be the DCAMU Superman, in the final film of his universe, he lost the Justice League, his friends that he knew for years, he was forced to roam the Earth and do nothing for two years, he didn't lose hope, he continued fighting, even after Lois Lane died, he continued fighting for good.
Injustice Superman lost Lois and then killed many people, even Shazam, a child. He broke his code multiple times during the games and comics, he shouldn't kill unless he needs to. Clark killed Green Arrow, he killed Martian Manhunter, turned Hal Jordan into a yellow lantern, teamed up with horrible people like Sinestro and Black Adam, that is not Superman.
In conclusion, the concept of evil Superman was cool at first with Ultraman, but it became boring very soon with all the different evil versions of him.
They were just being silly :)
