10 Things you didn't know about Batman

10 Batman facts you may not have heard before

Batman is one of the comic world's most iconic and popular superheroes of all-time. There's been many films published and different actors to have played Batman over the years - Adam West (the original); Michael Keaton; Val Kilmer; George Clooney; Christian Bale; Ben Affleck; and most recently, Robert Pattinson. Each one has brought their own unique style to the character first created in 1939 in Detective Comics #33.
Many decades later, the films, animations, series have been plentiful, so CBB have listed 10 quick and interesting facts about the caped crusader:

10. Created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger in 1939, Batman's name Bruce Wayne was derived by two historical heroes - Scottish legend, Robert the Bruce, and American Revolution leader, Mad Anthony Wayne. His appearance was based upon three separate characters - Zorro, the Shadow and Dracula!

9. Batman defeated formidable foe Darkseid twice. Darkseid is one of the most powerful villains in the DC universe, but Batman toppled him twice, despite being just a mere mortal.

The first time they duelled, Darkseid blasted Batman with his Omega Beams, so Batman returned fire with a god-killing gun, but the beams send the Dark Knight back in time, but he managed to return to the present to beat him.

The second time, Batman put on the Hellbat armour, designed by the Justice League to give him ultimate strength, and battled with Darkseid to resue his son Damian Wayne.

8. Batman was chosen to be a Yellow Lantern. The Yellow Lanterns of Sinestro Corps are powered by fear, so when a Yellow Ring attempted to choose someone from Earth, it naturally selected Batman.

7. In a Marvel/DC crossover comic in 1996, Batman merged with Wolverine to become the Dark Claw. His real name was Logan Wayne. In another crossover event, Batman teamed up with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Batman trained with the heroes in a half shel for five years before taking on Shredder together.

6. Bruce Wayne is reported to be worth around $100 billion in the comic books.

5. Batman marries Catwoman and raise a daughter, Helena, together. Bruce and Selina finally tied the knot in Batman/Catwoman #12, written by Tom King.

4. The man who murdered his parents, Thomas and Martha Wayne, was called Joe Chill. Although it was gangster Joe Moxon who ordered the assassination. Once, this tragic scene became even more sad when Barry Allen attempted to go back in time to save his mother, creating the Flashpoint, but in this twisted timeline it was young Bruce Wayne that was killed by Joe Chill, leaving Thomas and Martha childless and distraught.

3. Batman is not only regarded as one of the world's greatest detectives, but also he is a science genius as well.

2. Batman's ears are actually weapons that can be shot as projectiles towards his enemies.

1. Bruce Wayne has died many times in different ways, the first of his deaths dating back to 1977. In Flashpoint, he was murdered as a child; in an alternative reality, he has committed suicide; he once sacrificed himself to defeat Dracula, becoming a member of the undead; when infected with the deadly anti-life equation, Alfred is forced to kill Bruce in the DCeased comic.

His archenemy, Joker, when in the form of Emperor Joker, kills Batman many times but keeps resurrecting his nemesis because their relationship is so important to the evil clown. In the end, Superman manages to step in and defeat Joker.

Dick Grayson has also died when he was Batman - blown up by the Joker, who then later kills the retired Bruce Wayne. His devoted butler Alfred is killed by Bane when he sneaks up behind him and snaps his neck. Darkseid manages to kill Batman once, which led to Dick Grayson stepping up to become Batman, and Damian Wayne stepping into Robin's shoes.
