Top five worst fathers in Marvel
There's no shortage of terrible fathers in Marvel; so many, in fact, that narrowing it down to just five is an extremely difficult task.
Here's a small selection of bad dad's below:
5. Brian Banner - Father of Bruce Banner
Bruce Banner turns into the raging green monster, known as The Incredible Hulk, which is an extreme transformation that occurs because of a gamma ray incident.
Alcoholic, deranged Brian Banner was fired from a project involving clean nuclear energy after causing an explosion, which he became certain had caused him genetic damage. After his wife, Rebecca, had a son, Bruce, he was consumed with the belief that his offspring possessed a "monster gene".
Brian goes on to batter his wife, eventually murdering her, and even assaults Bruce when he visits his mother's grave. But when Bruce struck back, his dad broke his neck on his victim's tombstone.
4. Trigon - Father of Raven
Extra-dimensional demon, Trigon, has several numbers of children in different dimensions, but most were killed in infancy, sometimes by their own mothers to prevent the spread of evil.
However, his daughter Raven with her Earth mother, Arella, survived. Raven was forced to undergo intense training in order to suppress her emotions and immense power. She formed the group, The Teen Titans, with the sole aim to stop her father.
3. Norman Osborn - Father of Harry Osborn
Norman Osborn was a hard-nosed, ruthless, maniacal businessman with little care or love for his son, Harry, who he neglected and berated constantly for being weak.
A failed experiment caused Norman to lose his mind, leading him to become the Green Goblin, which his son, Harry, was later cursed with.
2. Thanos - Adopted Father of Gamora
You just knew that Thanos would be involved somewhere in a list full of bad guys!
The Mad Titan adopted Gamora after committing genocide of her people, the Zen-Whoberis. He didn't raise her in a nurturing, loving way, instead he brought her up to be a soldier, a remorseless assassin and cold-hearted killer, which his how she became known throughout the universe as "The Deadliest Woman in the Galaxy".
The last of her kind, Thanos found her as a child and instantly decided to turn her into weapon, even torturing her. The reason why Thanos hasn't been given the top spot on this list is because he always gave Gamora birthday and Christmas presents!
1. J'Son - Father of Star-Lord
After impregnating Meredith Quill with a son, Peter, who would later go on to be known as Star-Lord and leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy, J'Son tapped out and left them both behind on Earth, believing he was doing right by them.
Meredith married another man called Jake, who was furious when he found out Peter wasn't his, so he took the newborn out in the woods to kill him, but had a heart attack before he could follow through with the atrocity.
Known as J'Son of Spartex (named Ego in the MCU), he tried to eliminate the Guardians of the Galaxy and even put a large bounty on his son's head.
Name and Shame - A Few Other Bad Dads: Odin; Reed Richards; Red Skull; Ra's Al Ghul; Highfather; Sabretooth; Chiu-wai.
Fun Fact: Wolverine once killed his own son, Daken, who was murderous, hate-filled monster who wanted to end Wolverine and the world. This could have landed Logan on this loathsome list, but he raised two daughters, X-23 and her clone, very well and they even became superheros to follow in his footsteps.
