10 Facts about Jane Foster aka The Mighty Thor

Things you need to know about Jane Foster aka Mighty Thor

The new 'Thor: Love and Thunder' trailer was released this week and sent Marvel fans into a spin. The ending shot, to really capture the imagination and create anticipation for the fourth Thor movie, featured Jane Foster as the Mighty Thor, wielding Mjolnir.

But how did she become the Mighty Thor? CBB found out some interesting facts you need to know ahead of the film release in July:

10. Jane Foster's mother sadly died of cancer when she was just nine -years-old. She was brought up by her hard-working, doting dad, who worked two jobs as a plumber to pay for her to go to medical school. Despite his exhausting occupations, he never shirked his fatherly duties, always taking Jane to her softball matches and supporting her in any way he could. He later died of a heart attack.

9. Jane first met Thor as Dr. Donald Blake, his human form where Mjolnir turns into a cane. she became his assistant nurse in a private medical practise. They fell in love, but Jane had no idea of his dual-identity at the time. Just like in the MCU, Odin wasn't pleased with their pairing and forbade Thor to marry Foster, on the grounds that she was a mortal and not a goddess. He later relented under pressure and agreed to their marriage, but only if she could prove herself worthy.

8. Thor's original love interest was Asgardian goddess Lady Sif, and Odin helped them to rekindled their relationship after he removed Jane's memories of Thor. But their love was stronger; when close to death, Jane deliriously called out for Thor and it was Sif who saved her by transferring her own life force. Sif then vanished and Thor and Foster revived their forgotten relationship. Later, on a trip to Asgard, Jane struck Sif's sword against a wall and was transformed into her, as the two had become one being. Sif was still present though, her body and spirit had passed into another dimension after saving Foster's life.

7. As Jane Foster, she is 5ft 7" tall, but when she becomes Mighty Thor, she grows to 5ft 9". She also gains weight from 130lbs all the way up to 450lbs!

6. Foster and Thor have a child together called Jimmy. In his human form, Donald Blake married Jane, and they later divorced too.

5. Jane once developed breast cancer and joined the Congress of the Worlds on Asgard, representing Midgard (Earth), while she underwent therapy.

4. When Thor became unworthy and lost the ability to wield Mjolnir, the hammer was left discarded on the Moon, where it telepathically sought out Jane. She answered the call, with the help of Heimdall taking her to it's location, and lifted the hammer, instantly inheriting Thor's powers. She battled many of Thor's enemies, such as the Frost Giants, Mangog, Malekith and the Dark Elves, alongside Thor and his warriors, but she kept her new identity a mystery. The first person to find out was Falcon-turned-Captain America, Sam Wilson, who agreed to keep her secret safe. Doctor Strange was also able to know her identity due to his ability to see through spells.

3. Transforming into Thor so often eventually killed Jane. Still undergoing cancer treatment, every time she turned into Thor, it cancelled out all the chemotherapy drugs saving her live. After throwing Mangog into the sun and destroying Mjolnir in the process, she turned back into Jane Foster and instantly died. Odinson (as Thor was known because he gave his name to Jane) refused to accept this and landed on the Moon with Odin, where together they channeled the God Tempest to revive her. Without Mjolnir to transform her, she was able to concentrate on getting better.

2. After defeating King Laufey in battle (Jane used reforged Mjolnir to knock out one of his eyes), she was asked by Brunnihide to join the Valkyries, to which she agreed and was transformed.

1. After being reforged, the shattered Mjolnir was given one final blow in battle before it completely fell apart. It then recombined to merge into a vambrace that covered Jane's left arm. this became known as Undrjarn the All-Weapon, which has the ability to turn into any type of weapon it's wielder desires.

Bonus Fact: Jane Foster is a fan of cricket.
