Who is America Chavez?

Ahead of the newest Marvel offering, Doctor Strange 2: In the Multiverse of Madness, here is a list of 10 interesting facts about one of the film's main characters

10. Born in New York; when America was just five-years-old, she and her little sister, Catalina, were brought to the private island of billionaire Mr. Gales, so that their mothers, Amalia and Elena Chavez, could cure them of their Edges Syndrome, which was a genetic disease linked to the XX chromosomes.

Mr. Gales had alternative motives to exploit America's powers against her mother's wishes, so Elena tried to escape the medical facility with her children, but it ended with the death of both their mothers. Amalia was part of the portal chamber when it was destroyed and Elena was shot by Mr. Gales. America opened a star portal to escape with her sister to another place, but Catalina was ripped from her grip at the last second. Emerging from the other side, America saw the island engulfed in flames believing her entire family had been destroyed.

9. The young America was found by the Santana family having washed ashore on Jonas Beach and they took her back to their family home in Washington Heights. It was a full three years after her adoption before America was able to regain her memories,  believing she had been raised in the Utopian Parallel, She used her powers and became a vigilante against her adopted parents wishes. After many years of this, an argument eventually broke out between the family causing America to renounce her Santana family name to go back to Chavez for good.

8. Ms. America joined the Teen Brigade, serving as co-leader with Ultimate Nullifer, who also became a romantic interest. She fought with enemies such as Kid Loki; Loki; Young Masters of Evil; Tiboro; Braak'nhud; Young Masters; Doctor Doom, and more, even Thanos once. She was also a member of the teams: A-Force, the Ultimates, Young Avengers, and West Coast Avengers. Another love interest later on was Ramone Watts and also Lisa Halloran.

7. She was once arrested by Thor for her unsafe and dangerous actions during battle in Battleworld. What did she do? She threw a megalodon against a giant, protective wall, known as the Shield, that's what.

6. Chavez made many friends as a superhero, including Kate Bishop; Monica Rambeau; She-Hulk; Captain Marvel; War Machine; Patsy Walker;

5. She once helped Spider-Man rescue occupants of a burning building in Washington Heights. It turned out to be her the place of her childhood upbringing and it turned out to be a trap set by her sister Catalina. She was seeking her sister's help to finish their mothers' research, but America refused.

4. Her powers include flight, superhuman speed, strength and durability. She is bulletproof, flame retardant, and can survive in space. One of her main powers is the ability to create star-shaped portals.
